Letters #2

Dear Sammy,

Eeeh what a surprise it was to find a letter from my girlfriend in the daily post. This was the first personal letter not asking for money I have received since moving to Tokyo. The surprise is most welcome.

Your poetic musings about the “trenches” of your cyber war are quite the dramatic flair. I must admit, the image of you bravely protecting the lines of communication while your fellow airmen battle each other in video games is almost too much to bear. Truly, your heroism is palpable. Who would have thought that America could become the strongest military in the world with such lay abouts?

While I appreciate your vivid descriptions of Tokyo and our supposed future under the Sakura blossoms, I can’t help but wonder where these letters you speak of came from? I have as yet not sent so much as an email your way. Perhaps you should focus a bit more on the task at hand. After all, those server clusters won’t defend themselves.

It’s a sure thing that our son misses you even more than I. It’s been 3 hours since you left and he has been lying by the front door impatiently awaiting your return, I on the hand appreciate the quiet before heading into my own trenches, the Hell’s Kitchen of Tokyo. Don’t fret, my silly love. I am taking care of myself, and I do think of you — especially when I need a good laugh. Stay safe, and perhaps consider a bit less Call of Duty and a bit more actual duty.
